Recent advances in stem cell biology provide unprecedented opportunities for biomedical applications. The Institute of Reconstructive Neurobiology (IRN) aims at leveraging these new developments towards the discovery of fundamental disease mechanisms, the implementation of stem cell-based drug discovery systems and the development of novel therapies for diseases of the nervous system.
Composed of independent research teams with complementary expertise, IRN covers a broad spectrum of know-how required to tackle these demanding goals. Research activities encompass fundamental principles of developmental neurobiology, stem cell biology and cell reprogramming, neurological disease modeling and neuroregeneration, mechanisms of inflammatory neurodegeneration and the role of cancer stem-like cells in brain tumor formation.
