The focus of my scientific work is to investigate the underlying mechanisms of different insults (hypoxia-ischemia, inflammation, prematurity) on the developing brain. Therefore, we use different preclinical animal models. “Our main focus is on mechanisms of inflammation-sensitized experimental hypoxic-ischemic brain injury. Here, we are investigating the role of microglial cells in our model and the underlying inflammatory immune response. In addition we are interested in establishing different neuroprotective treatments which translate to clinical studies. Clinically, my main interest is to identify early biomarkers of perinatal brain injury.”
