The Clinical Ataxia Research Group is studying the clinical and imaging features of degenerative ataxias with a particular focus on the polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Specific goals are to characterize the premanifest disease stage by studying healthy mutations carriers before the onset of ataxia and to develop biomarkers that are useful as sensitive outcome markers in interventional trials. We are currently performing clinical trials in different ataxia disorders that have the goal to find compounds that relieve symptoms. In addition, we preparing trials with disease modifying interventions.
